How to Anchor a Portable Basketball Goal
Every NBA superstar got his start somewhere. For many of them, it was a basketball goal behind the house. Having a hoop at home is a great way to have fun with the family, teach kids about the sport, and stay active.
Once you've found the right goal for you, it's important to set it up right to avoid injuries and make sure your basketball experience is as fun as it can be. If you're using a portable basketball goal, it will be important to anchor it properly. If you lower the rim for slam dunks (or have a very impressive vertical leap), your hoop can fall over if it's dunked on and improperly stabilized. Aside from this danger, the annoyance of your rim constantly moving around can be avoided easily with a little effort.

Be sure your goal is exactly where you want it before undertaking to anchor it. It won't be impossible to move it once you're done, but the process is much easier if you anchor it where you want it in the first place. A little forethought at this stage can save you a hassle later on.

Almost all portable goals have a base that can be filled with sand or water for stability. There should be a screw cap on the top side of the base. Remove this cap to open the base.

Use a hose to fill the base with water, then close the screw cap tightly.

For additional support, rake a few bags of mulch on top of the base. Mulch is good to use because it's dense and heavy but also relatively soft, compared to something like concrete, so if you happen to come down on it at the end of a play, you're less likely to hurt yourself.
