How to Get Rid of Rats in the Vegetables

If you have rats in your garden, do not fret. There are several ways to rid your space of these pests; many are humane and foolproof. Two main components in a rat's diet are plenty of fresh veggies and fruit, but that does not mean you have to be the supplier.

Things You'll Need

• Spray bottle
• Water source
• Pepper
• Laundry soap

Instructions

1. Rats love vegetables, but no gardener wants to be a pest's buffet source. Most pests including rats will be deterred by a simple spray of water and hot pepper. You can decide how much pepper to use, but spraying this in and around your garden may prevent rats from coming back to munch on your carrots. You will have to spray again after every rain.

2. Hanging soap, bits of dog hair or even feces can scare away any rat. Placing feces around the general area of your garden will send out a signal to the rat that large predators are around.

3. If you find that the rats are still coming in droves, try a powder or trap that you can find in any garden supply store. No-kill traps are popular and easily found.

Tips & Warnings

• Remember that it may take a few tries before you remove the rats.

• Rats are not friendly, and they spread disease. Make sure to report any strange behavior from the pests if you see it because these rodents can carry rabies.
