Throwing a party or celebration may come down to the presentation. If you're serving cupcakes instead of a cake, you can create your own cupcake display. Not only will it present your cupcakes in style, but your guests may think you hired a professional to set it up.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large cardboard box
  • Mixing bowl set: 1 large, 1 medium and 1 small bowl
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Decorative scrapbook paper
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue gun stick(s)
  • Glue stick
  • Measuring tape
  • Jar lid
  • 2 soda cans (full or clean and empty)
  1. Step 1

Cut the box. Take your large cardboard box and cut along the folds of the box so that the box lies completely flat and open.

  2. Step 2

Trace bowls. Place the large mixing bowl top down on a side of the box and trace the bowl with a pen. Repeat this with the medium and small bowl on different sides of the box.

  3. Step 3

Use your scissors to cut out the circles you've traced on the cardboard.

  4. Step 4

Cut paper. Place the cut cardboard circles on the back of the decorative paper. You can either trace circles on the decorative paper and cut out the circles or wrap the decorative paper around each cardboard circle. Use your glue stick to adhere the decorative paper to the top of the cardboard circles. If you choose to wrap the cardboard circles, then use the glue stick to apply the paper to the top and your glue gun to secure the folds on the bottom of the cardboard discs.

  5. Step 5

Wrap soda cans. Using the same decorative paper or a coordinating paper, wrap your two soda cans. Use the glue gun to secure the paper to the cans.

  6. Step 6

Cut paper strips. Measure the circumference of each circle. Cut strips of the decorative paper that are approximately 1 1/2 to 2 in. wide and several inches long. You'll need to cut six to 10 strips of paper. These strips will be used to cover the edges of the cupcake stand.

  7. Step 7

Glue strips around circles. Use your hot glue gun to glue the strips of paper around the edge of the bottom of each cardboard circle. This helps to cover the corrugation of the box if you only glued the decorative paper to the top of the circle. It also helps to create a lip or ridge to the bottom of the circle to give it a shelf look.

  8. Step 8

Attach soda cans and lid. Turn the large circle top down and glue a jar lid face down to the center of the circle. This will serve as the pedestal or foot of the cake stand. Place the largest circle face up and glue one of the wrapped soda cans to the center of the circle. Then glue the medium circle face up to the top of the same soda can. Glue the second soda can to the center of the top of the medium circle and to the bottom of the small circle. The soda cans will be the cake pillars in between the layers of the stand.
