How to Use Empty Wine Bottles As Vases
When you clean up after a party, do you wish you had some way to reuse all the empty wine bottles? Or maybe you're setting up for a party, and don't have a vase to put flowers in. Either way, turning wine bottles into vases is the perfect craft for a frequent entertainer.

- Wine bottle
- Adhesive solvent
- Tape or stickers
- Tempera paint and a paint brush

Soak an empty wine bottle in a sink full of warm, soapy water. Swirl some water inside the bottle to loosen any sediment remaining at the bottom. Rinse thoroughly.

Peel off the labels. If the labels leave a sticky residue, use an adhesive remover to clean the bottle.

Apply masking tape or stickers to the bottle to make a pattern. Horizontal stripes, polka dots, and geometric shapes are pleasing to the eye.

Paint the bottle with tempera paint. Allow it to dry, and then peel off the tape or stickers to reveal the design.

Fill the vase 2/3 full of water. Add a nutrient packet.

Choose your flowers. Since the neck of a wine bottle is narrow, use no more than three stems per bottle.

Trim the stems of the flowers at an angle to allow them to soak up the nutrients. Pull off any leaves that would be below the waterline. Arrange the flowers in the bottle and place on a table as a decorative accent.

Tips & Warnings
For more impact, group several wine bottle vases together. Either paint them all the same color with different designs, or use the same design but a different color on each. Vases are not only for flowers; use a wine bottle vase to hold tall grasses, twig arrangements, or peacock feathers.
Do not put the painted bottle into the dishwasher or soak it in hot water, because the paint may peel. Wash the outside gently by hand if necessary, and let hot water and soap sit inside to remove any smell from decayed plant matter.
