Easter is an occasion that demands an appropriate spring dress and Easter bonnet to match. If your daughter is craving an Easter bonnet with a bunny, you're limited only by your imagination when it comes to creating an Easter bunny bonnet. Here are two ideas that will have your daughter hopping with joy. The more formal hat requires a store-bought straw bonnet and a bunny small enough that the hat will stay on her head. The more casual one for girls who don't like wearing hats is made using paper ears and a headband.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Straw hat
  • Ribbon to fit around crown of hat
  • Scissors
  • Green florist's wire
  • Small stuffed bunny
  • Silk flowers
  • Measuring tape
  • Headband
  • White construction paper
  • Crayons
  • Tape

    Stuffed Bunny Bonnet

  1. Step 1

Measure around the crown of the hat. Cut the ribbon in a length so it overlaps by one inch. Stitch the ribbon's ends together so the band won't slide off.

  2. Step 2

Use florist's wire to attach the bunny to the ribbon. Tie the wire around the bunny's middle and then around behind the ribbon. If the bunny doesn't feel secure to you, use a longer piece of wire to make a ring around the crown. Secure it by fitting the wire between the straw so it ties on the inside. Press wire ends flat inside the crown.

  3. Step 3

Arrange small silk flowers on either side of the bunny so it looks pleasing. Secure them to the ribbon by tying florist's wire to the stems and attaching it behind the ribbon.

  4. Step 4

Wear the hat toward the back of the head to balance a heavier bunny so it isn't top-heavy.

  5. Bunny Ears Bonnet

  6. Step 1

Purchase a headband in pink or white. Let your child try it on for size to ensure the fit is comfortable.

  7. Step 2

Fold a piece of white paper in half. Along the fold sketch one side of a bunny ear with a flat bottom and rounded top. Ears longer than 8 inches have trouble staying upright. Cut out the ear and unfold it so both halves match. Trace the ear to make an identical second ear. Cut out the second ear.

  8. Step 3

Color a narrow strip up the centers of the ears pink, leaving the bottom inch blank. Your child can use crayons, magic markers, or colored pencils. To make ears match, draw a long oval inside ears first and color within the lines.

  9. Step 4

Cut out the ears. Fold the bottom inch underneath.

  10. Step 5

Tape the folded bottom inch of the ears underneath the headband. The construction paper is firm enough to hold the ears upright.

Tips & Warnings
  • To avoid having the wire show around the bunny's midsection on the stuffed bunny hat, choose a bunny in a darker color. Measure the inside of the hat or try it on before buying it so you're sure it fits.
