Citizen is one of the top watchmakers in the United States; the company has been making watches since 1918. Most Citizen watches come with a removable back case cover that allows owners to remove the cover and change their own batteries. Removing the cover or changing the battery can be done at home with a common tool that can be purchased at a watch store.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adjustable screw-back tool
  1. Step 1

Use a toothpick, pin or pen to remove the excess dirt from the outer edges of the circle surrounding the back case cover of your watch. Note the slots surrounding the cover.

  2. Step 2

Adjust the three screws on your screw-back tool so they are lined up with the slots on the three sides of the back cover of your watch. Hold the tool up to your watch and loosen the screws to adjust them until they are the correct distance.

  3. Step 3

Fit the screws on the screw-back tool into the slots on your watch by pressing the tool firmly into the back of your watch. Hold the watch with one hand and use the other hand to screw the screw-back counter clockwise until the cover is loose enough to screw off or pop off with your hand.

  4. Step 4

Remove the small, circular battery. The battery will usually be silver, gray or bronze and will be smaller than the size of a dime. The battery will be held in with a small clamp. Pull the clamp up with your fingers or with a small tool and slide the battery out.

  5. Step 5

Keep the clamp up to slide a new battery into the vacant spot and snap the back cover case back onto your watch to complete the process.
