Use a Global Positioning System with Microsoft Streets and Tips software by sending routes to your road GPS unit. Microsoft Streets and Tips software provides a user interface for creating and saving customized routes and waypoints. After saving your routes within Microsoft Streets and Tips software, you can easily export those routes to compatible GPS units. With a wide range of compatible road GPS units, Microsoft Streets and Tips provides an easy method for creating and exporting routes to your GPS unit.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Streets and Tips software
  • Compatible road GPS unit
  1. Step 1

    Create and save a route using Microsoft Streets and Tips software on your personal computer.

  2. Step 2

    Determine if your road GPS is compatible with Microsoft Streets and Tips software by checking your GPS unit's owners manual. Your GPS device must be able to support GPX files and have a USB cable port.

  3. Step 3

    Connect a USB cable from your personal computer to the GPS device.

  4. Step 4

    Select "Tools" from the main menu page on Microsoft Streets and Tips.

  5. Step 5

    Select "Send to GPS" from the "Tools" menu. Select USB as the method of transfer, unless your GPS unit supports MSN Direct, in which case you do not need a direct USB connection and can instead transfer the route file by wireless connection.

  6. Step 6

    Select the "Routes" menu on your GPS unit to activate the newly downloaded route.
