Lace front wigs are installed in many different ways, including with tape, hair clip and glue. Lace front wigs that are glued on create a strong bond between the skin and lace border of the wig. Strong bonds secure the wig to the head and lengthen the lifespan of the wig. Liquid Gold is one of the many types of glues used to attach lace front wigs and weaves or hair extensions to the head.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut away the lace border of your lace front wig. Leave about ½ inch of lace around the perimeter of the wig. The extra lace will be used to secure the wig to your head. Be careful while cutting the lace as it cannot be replaced if it is accidentally removed.

  2. Step 2

Lay the lace front wig on your head and move it to your desired position. Line up the parted section of the wig directly with the bridge of your nose. Correct any placement issues before bonding the wig to your head. Once you have correctly placed the wig on your head, fold the wig back so that it will be out of the way. Temporarily secure the wig with hair clips.

  3. Step 3

Clean your forehead and hairline with isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol will remove dirt or residue on your skin that can interfere with the lace border bond. Allow the alcohol to fully dry on your skin and feel it to determine that there is no alcohol left. Isopropyl alcohol can be purchased at any pharmacy or department store in the health and beauty section.

  4. Step 4

Apply the Liquid Gold by squeezing a small amount onto a cotton swab and dabbing it along your hairline. Create a thin layer of glue rather than a thick layer. Too much glue will create a mess and is unnecessary for bonding. Liquid Gold can be found at most beauty supply stores, such as Sally's, or online wig outlets.

  5. Step 5

Lay the lace border over the glue and gently press it down with your fingers, sealing the bond. After the lace border has been glued to your hairline, press your rat-tail comb handle down over the border. This will further secure the bond between the lace border and your skin. If you are gluing the wig to your nape as well, follow the same steps and allow the glue to dry for about 10 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Removing the wig to correct placement issues before the glue has dried can cause damage to the lace border.
