How to Season a Stainless Steel Grill

Save

Seasoning a cooking service typically means preparing it in some fashion to optimize its performance or improving the flavor or texture of the foods you will cook on the surface. Also, if you leave the cooking surface unseasoned, the food might stick to it. Before seasoning your stainless-steel grill, always refer to the manufacturer's instruction manual to avoid doing anything that might void the warranty.

Things You'll Need

  • Potato
  • Knife
  • Fork
  • Vegetable oil
  • Pie tin or pan
  • Before using your stainless-steel grill for the first time, heat it to 250 degrees, then turn it off.

  • Cut a raw potato in half.

  • Pour vegetable oil into a pie tin or dish. Add just enough to cover the bottom of the pan. Add more if needed.

  • Dip the cut end of the potato into the vegetable oil. Stab the uncut end with a fork, and use the fork as a handle.

  • Using the potato halves, spread vegetable oil over the hot surface of the grill.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to burn yourself on the hot grill.
