How to Make a Bathing Suit Cover Up With Beach Towels
For many women, going to the beach or the swimming pool means searching for a cover up that will not be damaged if it gets wet or sandy, as well as one that goes on easily over a wet swimsuit. Solve both issues by making a cute cover up using a beach towel.

- Beach towel
- Self-adhesive Velcro strips or similar hook and loop tape

1
Hold the beach towel horizontally around your body, marking with your hands where it overlaps. Keep your hand on that spot as you remove the towel and lay it on a flat surface.
-
2
Center a strip of self-adhesive Velcro on the spot where the towel overlapped when you wrapped it around your body. The first strip should be placed just below the top side seam of the towel. For extra hold and coverage, add two or three more Velcro strips below the first, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Attach the opposite side of the Velcro to the other end of the beach towel, lining up the strips vertically.

3
Thread the sewing machine with thread that either matches or contrasts with the towel. Sew a zig zag stitch around each strip of Velcro to reinforce the application.

4
Cut a piece of ribbon slightly longer than the width of the towel. Wide grosgrain ribbon works really well and comes in a wide variety of colors and prints. Pin the ribbon down the width of the towel so that it will be on the front when you wrap the towel around you. Sew the ribbon onto the towel.

Add an applique, rhinestones or other adornments to the towel to decorate it. You could also use fabric paint or glitter to make your cover up one-of-a-kind.

Tips & Warnings
If you are a small-framed person, a beach towel may be too large to use as a coverup. If that is the case, you can make the same project using a bath towel. For toddlers and young children, you can make a cute cover up using a hand towel.
