Things You'll Need:
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Egg carton
- White crayon
- Food coloring
- Hot water
- White vinegar
- Measuring spoons
- Measuring cups
- Sauce pan
- Small bowls
- Slotted spoon
- Vegetable oil
- Cloth
-
Step 1
Fill your sauce pan with water and heat to a boil. Turn off the burner and add two-thirds cup of the hot water to a bowl for each color of egg dye you would like to make.
-
Step 2
Add one-fourth tsp. food coloring of desired color to each bowl. Next, add one tsp. white vinegar to each bowl. Stir the water, food coloring and vinegar together so that it is mixed well, but not so long that the water cools.
-
Step 3
Draw designs on each hard-boiled egg with a white crayon. The parts of the egg that are covered in the crayon wax won't take on the color of the food dye, leaving the designs white.
-
Step 4
Place hard boiled eggs into the different bowls one at a time, letting them sit in the food dye until the color is as light or dark as you like. Remove the eggs with a slotted spoon and set them in the egg carton to dry.
-
Step 5
Wipe the eggs with a cloth dampened with vegetable oil to polish them once they are dry.
