Empty the dishwasher of all dishes and remove the racks by pulling them straight out. Some dishwashers require you to lift up slightly on the upper rack to completely remove it.

Use a steel wool pad to scrub any areas of the rack that have rusted. Then use a clean rag to completely dry the rack. If the rack does not have any rust on it, simply wipe it with a cloth to ensure it is dry.

Allow the solution to dry completely, and apply a second coat if desired. Allow the rack to dry for 24 hours.

Apply dishwasher rack caps to the pointed prongs. Although you can simply apply multiple coats of rack repair to the ends of prongs, a better solution is to purchase and apply rack caps. These are inexpensive and are available anywhere that dishwasher accessories are sold.
