Things You'll Need:
- Beading silk or jewelry thread
- Bead tip
- Beads
- Needle-nose jewelry pliers
-
Step 1
Cut a 3-foot length of beading silk. Thread a bead tip with an open-loop clasp onto one end. Push the thread through the little hole in the bead tip--the hole in the part that connects the two "clam shells." Make sure your bead tip's clasp faces away from the beads, not toward them. Tie an overhand knot at the end of your silk, and pull it tight so it sits in the cup that the "clam shells" create. Now you have a secure end to your thread, so none of the beads can slide off that end.
-
Step 2
Thread all your beads onto your silk. Again, make sure your bead tip's clasp faces away from the beads, not toward them.
-
Step 3
Tie your first knot: It's going to go between your bead tip and your first bead. Make a loop with your silk by wrapping it around your middle two fingers. Drop the bead tip through this loop.
-
Step 4
Poke your needle-nose pliers through the loop and grip the silk just above the bead tip.
-
Step 5
With your other hand, pull the knot tightly around your pliers. The knot should be right up against the bead tip.
-
Step 6
Carefully slide the pliers out of the knot. As you do so, put your thumb and forefinger up against the knot, and push it tightly against the bead tip.
-
Step 7
Move your next bead along the thread. As in Step 3, make a loop with your silk by wrapping it around your middle two fingers. Drop the bead through the loop.
-
Step 8
Repeat Steps 4 through 6.
