A screen door closer will protect your screen door from slamming when it is opened and closed. The closer is connected to the door frame and the screen door with a chain in the middle of the door and a pneumatic closer at the top. To install a screen door closer, you need about 15 to 20 minutes of time. This device will protect your door and prevent damage in windstorms. It will assure you that your door is closed after you walk outdoors or indoors.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat tip screwdriver
  • Pneumatic door closer
  • Hardware
  • Drill
  • Drill bit
  1. Step 1

Place the closer at the top of the door and the door frame so that it clears the frame of the door when it is closed. Make a mark on the screen door rail where the bracket will go, and another mark on top of the door frame where the other bracket will go.

  2. Step 2

Use the drill to make two pilot holes for each bracket.

  3. Step 3

Attach one bracket to the screen door with the screwdriver and screws. The pump should be at the end that attaches to the screen door.

  4. Step 4

Attach the other bracket--on the end with the rod that comes out of the pneumatic closer--to the wood door frame with the screws and a screwdriver.

  5. Step 5

Place the chain in the middle of the door. Mark the bracket's screw holes on the screen door and the door frame. Make pilot holes with the drill.

  6. Step 6

Attach the bracket to the door frame with the screws. Attach the other side to the screen door.

  7. Step 7

Set the chain for the opening length. Adjust the speed at which the door closes by using the flat tip screwdriver to turn the screw in the end of the pneumatic closer. Turn left for a faster close and right to slow down the speed.
