Adobe is a leader in graphics software, and Adobe Acrobat 8 may be their most widely used product. The combined power of Adobe Reader, free for download, and Adobe Acrobat, a highly capable PDF tool, makes for a dynamic solution to PDF creation, editing and management issues. Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat 8 are used in conjunction, and they are available for purchase and installation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Adobe Acrobat 8
  1. Step 1

Purchase the software. Unlike Adobe Reader 8, which is available for free download on the Internet, Adobe Acrobat 8 is available for purchase only. Visit Amazon.com or another online retailer to find the product, or buy the software from a local electronics store. The item is available in both Standard and Professional versions; the Professional version costs about two times the Standard version price.

  2. Step 2

Once you have the product, open the package and identify the contents. Locate the product key. You also need to locate the activation code; Adobe has a strict process of activation to prevent software piracy and unauthorized distribution, so you must have the code handy before you can continue.

  3. Step 3

Install the software by placing the CD/DVD in your drive and running the installer. Follow the on-screen instructions, and when prompted enter your activation code. If you have issues with your Internet connection, call Adobe with the number located on your product and activate the software over the phone.

  4. Step 4

Troubleshoot any problems. Several issues could occur in the download process, including a "too many activations" error. This could occur if the product has been activated on more than one machine. If you wish to install it on your computer but it is still activated on another computer, you must first deactivate it from that computer. If you wish to use it on two computers, buy another license by following the on-screen prompts. If you cannot click to accept the EULA Software Agreement, the problem might be a screen resolution issue. Make sure your screen is set to 1,024 by 768 pixels for installation. Also, press "Enter" to accept instead of clicking on the button.

  5. Step 5

Begin using Acrobat 8. Acrobat 8 comes with a variety of features, many of which go largely unused by Acrobat users. In Acrobat, you can combine multiple files into a PDF package, you can scan documents with OCR reading technology to create PDF documents, and the version 8 allows complete sharing of documents in real time via Flash and Flash Player. Get to know your Adobe Acrobat and Reader 8 by watching the included tutorials, and consult the "Help" section often to get tips on running the program.
