How to Connect an Outdoor Camera to a PC

Save

Outdoor cameras are typically used for security purposes. If you own your own small business or just want some extra security around the house, you may decide to purchase some outdoor cameras for monitoring purposes. However, instead of connecting the camera to a large security system, you can connect the camera to your computer and save the images onto the hard drive.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Outdoor camera
  • USB extension cable
  • Driver installation disk
  • Connect the outdoor camera to the female end of a USB extension cord.

  • Insert the male end of the USB extension cable into an available port on the computer.

  • Power on the computer and it is going to state it has detected a new camera.

  • Insert the driver installation disk for the outdoor camera. In a moment, the driver installation wizard will launch.

  • Accept the license agreement and follow the remaining prompts to complete the setup.

  • Install the outdoor camera software now if there is any included. If the camera is designed as a security camera, there is going to be security software that helps you record the information seen by the camera. These cameras work similar to a computer webcam.
