How to Alter Clipboards
An altered clipboard can be created to decorate your home or to give as a gift to a teacher or a friend that works in an office setting. Altered clipboards can be adorned with paper, stickers or photos. These clipboards can be made with supplies from the local art or craft store. When deciding how to decorate the clipboard, take into account if the recipient will be using the clipboard to write on or just hanging it as artwork; this will help you in the planning of the design.

Instructions
-
-
1
Choose a theme and colors for the altered clipboard.
-
2
Purchase a scrapbook paper that is standard size---12 x 12---for the background color. Scrapbook papers come in patterns like stripes and polka dots and also in holiday themes.
-
-
3
Paint the back of the clipboard with acrylic paint in the color of your choice. Set aside and let dry.
-
4
Use a clip to hold the metal clip on the board open. Cover the rest of the metal clip with masking tape to avoid paint being applied.
-
5
Paint the front of the clipboard with acrylic paint. Let dry.
-
6
Apply Mod Podge to the front of the clipboard from under the clip to the bottom with a foam craft brush. Place a piece of scrapbook paper over the Mod Podge, smoothing out any air bubbles.
-
7
Cut the excess paper off of the edges of the clipboard. The excess paper can be used for adding more paper to the part of the clipboard surrounding the metal clip section.
-
8
Add embellishments to the front of the clipboard. Use photos, postcards, rub-on transfer designs or stamps. For example, for a Christmas-themed clipboard, add candy cane or holly berry designs.
-
9
Apply a coat of Mod Podge over the finished design to seal and protect the design. Let dry. Repeat.
-
10
Tie ribbons around the metal clip portion of the clipboard with coordinating colors.

Tips & Warnings
Use the excess paper to further embellish the clipboard or make photo corners for photos or postcards. Add a photo or small calendar under the clip that can be changed when the recipient chooses.
