  1. How to Root Sedum

    • 1

Choose a sedum which has several stems. When deciding which stems to use for rooting, select one of two that are not new growth. Use the shears to snip the stems off close to the base. Rooting sedum is best done in early spring so that the plant will have the entire growing season to become strong and full before winter dormancy.

    • 2

Dip the ends into the rooting solution. The rooting solution enzyme helps the plant stem to form roots. This is not a necessary step, but it does help the plant root better and faster.

    • 3

Place the cutting into loose potting soil either in a container or a prepared area. Tamp the soil around the cutting and water thoroughly. Potting soil is recommended because it provides good drainage and nutrients for the new plant roots.

    • 4

Water daily for one to two weeks. Water is essential for forming a new root system. After two weeks your sedum will be rooted and will begin growing and forming new sprouts on its own. This is an ideal way to make one sedum plant into a cluster or border of plants.
