Instructions

  1. How to Paint a Concrete Pool

    • 1

Drain your swimming pool of all the water.

    • 2

Use a sander to sand most of the remaining pant off the concrete walls of the swimming pool. This will give you the best end result and the easiest application of the new paint.

    • 3

Apply a strong detergent such as TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) to remove any oils from the surface. Rinse the detergent thoroughly with a pressure washer to ensure all detergent is rinsed away. This step may need to be repeated if any oil stains are stubborn. When working with any solvents or acids be sure to wear rubber gloves and safety goggles.

    • 4

Apply muriatic acid or etching cleaner to the surface. Etching cleaner is much safer, since muriatic acid is very toxic and has dangerous fumes. Apply the etching cleaner or muriatic acid and allow it to soak according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 5

Brush the etching cleaner or muriatic acid vigorously for 10 to 15 minutes. Be sure to rinse the pool thoroughly with a pressure washer.

    • 6

Allow the swimming pool surface to dry completely before continuing to the next step.

    • 7

Pour the chlorinated rubber paint into a paint pan and begin rolling the paint onto the swimming pool surface. Two coats of paint is recommended, so be sure to allow 12 to 24 hours for the first coat to completely dry before applying the second coat.

    • 8

Allow the second coat to dry for another 12 to 24 hours before filling your pool back up with water.

Tips & Warnings

  • Muriatic acid is very strong acid, so be sure to wear gloves when handling. Only handle the acid in a well-ventilated area.
