Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a metal pound cake pan or numerous pans depending on the quantity of pound cakes you will be making at once. Buy one disposable pound cake tin and lid for each pound cake you plan on sending. Buy and freeze the dry ice packets (if you plan to use dry ice) to accompany your pound cake.

    • 2

Prepare your pound cakes according to your favorite recipe or the one provided. Remove from the oven and pan and place on a wire baking rack or the kitchen counter for cooling. Once completely cool, neatly wrap each pound cake individually with three layers of plastic wrap. Put each pound cake in its respective disposable pound cake tin, put the lid on, and completely wrap the exterior with tin foil.

    • 3

Put your wrapped pound cake(s) in the freezer and leave until completely frozen or until ready to send (up to three months).

    • 4

Call to arrange an overnight mail shipment the day before or the morning you plan to send your pound cake. Assemble your corrugated shipping box. Line the bottom of it with at least 2 inches of packing popcorn or bubble wrap.

    • 5

Remove the pound cake from the freezer and pull away the tin foil. Gently crumble a few sheets of tissue paper and line the bottom of your gift box. Place the disposable tin with your pound cake inside the gift box. Continue to surround the pound cake with crumbled tissue paper on the sides and top before closing the box.

    • 6

Place the gift box inside the corrugated box and surround it with a row of dry ice packets for optimal freshness. Your frozen pound cake will thaw within about five hours. Optimum freshness is one to three days after it is thawed. Continue packing popcorn or bubble wrap around the perimeter of your gift box to ensure a snug fit and avoid shifting your cake or gift box.

Enclose a note or card if you like, then seal your box with packing tape and affix the addressed overnight mail envelope. Send your package via overnight express mail through the U.S. Postal Service, UPS or DHL.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you or your recipient prefers a frosted pound cake, you may do so by cutting the cake in half and filling it with frosting, similar to a birthday cake, before freezing, or include a side of frosting for your recipient to apply themselves.
