1
Choose your location. Pinot noir grape vines need plenty of sun exposure with minimal heat to be successful.
-
2
Prepare your soil. Pinot noir grape vines need a quick-draining, porous soil. Combine potting soil with gravel or small stones to construct an ideal soil.
-
-
3
Dig holes for your trellises and grape vines. Holes should be spaced at 6 to 8 feet for optimum growth, and be just large enough for the root balls of your grape vine canes, or stems. Dig the holes slightly deeper, and fill them in halfway with your potting soil to ensure good drainage for your vines.
-
4
Prepare your grape vine canes. Prune off damaged and broken roots, and get rid of secondary canes or canes that appear weaker than the main stem.
-
5
Place the roots of your vines into their holes and spread them. Cover them with a thin layer of potting soil, and water.
-
6
Cut the canes back and leave only two strong buds on each stem. These buds will grow into additional vines.
