How to Make a No-Sew Pleated Dust Ruffle

A dust ruffle can be an excellent addition to any bedroom, making the room appear brighter and more put together. A dust ruffle can also help mask storage under the bed. Although making a traditional dust ruffle can be an arduous task, you can get around that by creating a simple no-sew dust ruffle. This is perfect for a child or teenager's room, because you can include them in the project.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Yard stick
    • Sticky Velcro
    • Glue gun
    • Iron
    • Ironing board
    • Cotton or poly-cotton material
    • Scissors
      • 1

Measure each side of the bed; you will need to make four separate panels for this no-sew ruffle. Record the measurements of the height and width of each side of the bed.

      • 2

Purchase material. Cotton or a poly-cotton blend are the easiest materials to work with. You should purchase enough material to cover all sides of the bed, plus three inches per each pleat you plan and one extra inch for the top and one extra inch for the bottom. The long sides will typically have three to five pleats, while the shorter sides will have two to three pleats.

      • 3

Cut your material to the dimensions you need, leaving the extra room for the pleats and one extra inch on top and one extra inch on the bottom.

      • 4

At the ironing board, fold the material where you would like the pleats. Iron the material so it creates a crease.

      • 5

Measure one inch on top and one inch on the bottom of the panel with a yard stick. Fold the fabric over one inch using your yardstick to make sure it is straight. Unfold the fabric and place a line of hot glue from a glue gun at the top of the panel. Fold the fabric over again, sticking it to the glue this time. Repeat on the bottom of the panel.

      • 6

Repeat this process with all the panels you plan to use.

      • 7

Stick Velcro to the top of each panel. For extra protection, apply a line of glue from the hot glue gun and stick the Velcro on it.

      • 8

Place the other side of the self-adhesive Velcro on the bed frame, where you would like the dust ruffle to hang from. It is not recommended that you add glue to the bed frame, because this could damage it if you decide to remove the dust ruffle.

      • 9

Stick the two Velcro sides to each other (the one on the bed frame and the one on the top of the dust ruffle) and let it hang. Repeat on all sides.

Since I prefer to sleep under just the comforter, I was able to make a perfect no sew bed skirt by putting the top sheet on top of the box springs. Also, by buying a second set of sheets you can get quite a bit of matching fabric at a price that is probably less than from a fabric store. From this you can make stuffed pillows from the pillowcases, ruffled bed skirts, curtains, any kinds of matching accessories. Zhizara
