How to Temporarily Fix a Hole in a Roof
Most people remain clueless as to the damage on their rooftop until a nasty storm hits. During these rainy conditions, it is often impossible to make permanent roof repairs and keep the water from damaging the inside of your home. Covering your leaking roof quickly and effectively until you are able to make more than a temporary fix will safeguard your home from further damage. Regular roof inspections are recommended by professionals at least twice yearly. Does this Spark an idea?

1
If you notice a roof leak in the middle of a storm, try to locate where it is coming from. Leaks often occur on the most vulnerable areas of your rooftop, such as in valleys, eaves or near damaged shingles. Try to trace the location of where the water is coming into your home from the roof. If you can find it, poke a wire through it so you can easily locate it on the roof later when you climb up to make a permanent repair.

2
Measure the distance from the roof to the ground. You will be using four times the length of this distance plus an extra four feet of rope. Purchase a strong rope that is weather tolerant in addition to a strong tarp that is large enough to cover the entire roof. Cut the rope into four equal pieces.

3
Pound ground stakes into each corner of the home, leaving enough room above the ground on them so you will be able to secure the rope through each stake. Climb up on the roof and place the tarp over it, bringing the rope with you.
-
4
Slide one length of rope through a corner tarp hole, and pull until the rope is doubled equally. Drop the rope to the ground and tie each end through the stake, knotting securely. Repeat the process until all four corners are secured.

5
If you are unable to secure the stakes in dirt because of cement or asphalt around the home, use large cement cinder blocks to secure the ropes to the ground.
