Because closets doors are most often kept shut, stopping the flow of fresh air, mold seems to thrive in these locations. Mold comes in a variety of colors and textures and is usually circular and splotchy. It has a distinct musty smell. If you find mold in your closet, remove it as soon as possible.       Remove all items from your closet. Check these items for mold. Mold can spread easily.

      Open all windows in the room where the moldy closet is located. The smell of bleach is strong, and you want to work in a well ventilated area.

      Cover your mouth with a mask. This will help you to inhale as little as the bleach fumes as possible.

      Pour 1 part bleach and 1 part water directly into your squirt bottle. Swirl to mix, but do not shake.

      Spray the bleach mixture directly onto the mold in your closet. Allow to dry for 10 minutes.

      Reapply the bleach mixture if the mold is still there. Allow to dry for 10 minutes. Repeat the process until the mold is gone.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the mold is stubborn, try sanding it down with 60 grit sandpaper and then spray once more with bleach.

  • If the mold is in the carpet or other porous surfaces, the item must be removed and thrown away. Mold can not be completely removed from porous surfaces.
