Connecting a PC to the Web through mobile Internet is a reliable way to ensure a connection is always available when you need it. Whether you're at home or on the move, your mobile phone can always be used as a connection source as long as you have a phone with mobile Internet capability. Its all a process of re-routing your mobile phone's Internet connection to the computer. The connection configuration only takes a few minutes to complete.
Things You'll Need
- Mobile phone (preferably a SmartPhone or PDA)
- Windows Mobile
- Mobile Web 2.0
- USB sync cable
Configure the computer's connection settings so the mobile phone's connection can be detected by your computer. Go to "Control Panel" by accessing the "Start', and select the Mobile PC link. Click on "Windows Mobile Device Center" at the bottom of the sub menu list, and check the box next to "Allow USB Connections".
Go to your mobile phone's connection settings. Press the "Start" menu key on the phone, and go to the "Settings" tab, then select "Connections" in the subtopic menu.
Setup a mobile Internet that is accessible for the computer. Press the WLAN key option, in the "Connections" menu to enable a wireless connection from the mobile phone. You will then be prompted to choose a connection type, whether it be home, work, or public. Press the key that indicates the your location.
Connect your PC to the mobile phone. Insert the USB sync cable connectors into the mobile phone's A/C adapter port, and into the computer's USB port.
Connect your PC to the Internet. Press the Mobile Web tab on your phone's menu and the connection that would usually connect your phone to the Internet will be re-routed to your computer.
Tips & Warnings
- SmartPhones and PDAs are currently the only phones that come equipped with mobile Internet connection capability for PCs and laptops. If you are using any other type of phone, your chances of configuring a successful and stable Internet connection are slim to none.
- Make sure you have mobile Internet as a feature on your phone's plan. If you do not have this feature on your plan, access will not be disabled, but you will be charged per kilobyte for Internet data usage outside of your calling plan. This can become quite expensive in just a short period of time.
