How to Change a Weed Eater String

Weed Eater is a manufacturer of string trimmers. String trimmers use a small nylon string on a rotating head to cut down weeds. As you use the trimmer, the string wears off and a new piece of string feeds out to take its place. Over time, you run out of string. Weed Eater uses two different heads and the process for replacing the string is different on both. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Preloaded String Spool

    • 1

Hold the spool still with one hand and remove the threaded cap that holds the spool onto the trimmer.

    • 2

Remove the string guide nut and the spool from the trimmer. Both slide off the end of the shaft on the trimmer.

    • 3

Place the new spool onto the trimmer and feed the end of the string through the hole in the string guide nut. If you want to save money, cut a 25-foot piece of string. Place the tip of the string into the center hole on the spool and wrap the string counterclockwise. This voids the need to purchase a preloaded spool.

    • 4

Place the string-guide nut on top of the spool, then lock the nut and spool in place with the threaded cap.

Disconnect the trimmer from its electrical source if the trimmer is electric.

    • 6

Push in on the tap button on the bottom of the trimmer spool.

    • 7

Cut 30-feet of string and place the tip of the string into the small hole cut into the side of the spool.

    • 8

Wrap the string around the spool following the arrow on the top of the spool. Keep the string is tight. Leave about 1 foot of string unwound and secure the string to the notch on the top edge of the spool.

    • 9

Place the string through the cover in the cutter head and seat the spool inside the head until it snaps into place. Pull on the string to remove it from the notch on the spool or the string will not work properly.
