Some GE Profile microwave models (built-in, counter top, over-the-counter or over-the-range) are built to allow consumers to change the light bulbs themselves. Others are not, requiring you pay a technician to do it. If you can access a panel near the interior light (and if your appliance bulb is located there), you may be able to change the light bulb by following these instructions.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Unplug the microwave or, from the circuit breaker, disconnect the power.

  2. Step 2

Use your screwdriver to remove the cover over the light bulb. You can find the cover in the back of the microwave or on the side. If you don't see a cover, you'll have to hire a technician to replace your light bulb. Place the screw nearby, as you'll need it again to replace the cover.

  3. Step 3

Gently push in the burned-out bulb and turn it counter-clockwise until it is completely unscrewed.

  4. Step 4

Replace the old light bulb with a new bulb. Depending on the microwave size and model, you may need a 20-watt, 25-watt or 30-watt bulb. When replacing the bulb, press gently and turn clockwise.

  5. Step 5

Use your screwdriver and the original screw to replace the cover on the back or side of your microwave.

Tips & Warnings
  • Refer to the Owner's Manual that came with your microwave for light bulb replacement instructions. If the instructions are not provided in your manual, you will need to hire a service technician, as the consumer is not meant to replace the bulb.
