Step 1
The rotating brush on a new vacuum cleaner is too harsh for these rugs.Use an upright vacuum or a canister vacuum cleaner instead.
-
Step 2
To prevent the fringe from being tangled up or getting sucked up in the cleaner, put an old nylon stocking over the end of the attachment nozzle. You should always vacuum in the direction the pile is to lay.
-
Step 3
If the rug is small enough, take it outside and hang it on a clothesline and brush it with a soft brush. Vacuum the back of the rug occasionally to remove grit and dirt.
-
Step 4
To remove grease from the rug - use a dry spot cleaner that can be purchased in most grocery stores. Test in an area that is not visible first.
-
Step 5
About every 3 years, hire a professional to clean the rug. Rugs with wool pile should generally be cleaned by a professional.
