Step 1
Accelerated BSN programs are very rigorous. These programs are geared toward individuals who already have a bachelors degree in another subject or have a high number of credit hours to transfer into the program. By joining an accelerated program, a BSN can be obtained in as little as 12 months. Program lengths vary from school to school. Admission standards are stringent. Most require a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Do you have an academic record that meets this criteria?
-
Step 2
All programs require pre-requisite courses. The exact ones vary from school to school but Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Psychology, Human Growth and Development, and Statistics seem standard. Some schools require Ethics or Nutrition or other courses. If these courses were not a part of your undergraduate course of study, they will need to be taken before you start an accelerated program.
-
Step 3
Some schools require a personal interview and references. The purpose of this is to make sure that your motivations for nursing are true and that you are a person of upstanding character. Work or educational references further reinforce whether you are able to handle the workload of the program.
-
Step 4
If you still feel up to the challenge of an accelerated program, then you need to locate a school to attend. One way to find a school is to contact your local nursing schools and inquire about the programs offered. As accelerated BSN programs seem to be growing nationwide, you may find out about an emerging program by calling around.

Step 5
Once you've decided to pursue your BSN this way, the only thing left to do it to apply! Then figure out how to pay for it --- but that's a topic for another day!
