How to Create a Trunk-or-Treat Event at your Church

It is always good to take opportunities to reach out to others in the love of Christ. Keeping children safe is another reason Trunk-or-Treat at a church is beneficial. This is a fun and easy way to get people from your church involved in reaching out to the community. Here are some easy ways to set up a Trunk-or-Treat event at your church or organization.

Things You'll Need:

• Volunteers
• Candy
• Decorations
• Communication

1. Communication is the key. First, communicate to the congregation the details of the event through the bulletin, announcements, media screen, etc. Let them know when, where, how, etc. Also, communicate to the community through flyers, ads, church sign, etc. to let them know when they bring their children, what they can except emphasizing the fun and safety of the event.

2. Have a sign-up available for those in the church who can participate. For those unable to be at the event, give them opportunity to participate by donating candy to the event. The candy is depleted quickly, so it is good to have extra bags on hand.

3. Along with candy, it is a great opportunity to hand out encouraging notes about the love of Christ. Perhaps there are some upcoming kids programs at the church that you can hand out, too.

4. Make sure that the area designated for the Trunk-or-Treat is well lighted (usually the parking lot of the church) with signs, cones, and volunteers directing traffic to make sure everyone is kept safe.

Tips & Warnings

• Volunteers can dress up making it more fun!
• Decorate the area to make it inviting.
• Do everything possible to make sure the children are kept safe. Volunteers could walk through the area to make sure there are no problems.
