Step 1
Before you can begin security guard training, a high school diploma is usually a minimum requirement. Be sure you meet the educational prerequisites before beginning a security guard training program.
-
Step 2
Look for a school accredited in security guard training. While not required by all employers, “official” security guard training can give you an edge over other job candidates. In some states, such as New York, certified security guard training is mandatory.
-
Step 3
Hone your clerical skills. Security guard training involves not only criminal justice subjects but also skills such as writing reports and public relations.
-
Step 4
Get a weapons license. Armed security guard training is helpful for those who wish to work as armed guards, but even those who have undergone security guard training must also carry the appropriate weapons license according to their state.
-
Step 5
Get in shape. Security guard training admission does not have fitness requirements but most employers prefer a security guard who can run after thieves if necessary.
