How to Tell If a Guy Is Interested in You
Every girl has been there. You're on your first date with this really hot guy, but you can't tell if he's as thrilled over you as you are with him. How do you know he's really interested? How do you know that things are going well? Men try to play it cool and it can be hard to determine his interest level. But there are some tell-tell signs that come from his subconscious, and are hard for him to hide. Look for these clues to gauge just how into you he really is.

Watch for "personal space invasion". You can tell a ton by how close (or how far away) people are willing to be. In must social interactions, people tend to stay about 20 inches away from you. If someone goes out of their way to be a bit closer than that, that is their subconscious trying to be near you. On the flip side though, if someone seems to look for any excuse to keep that distance, or even tries hard to increase that distance, it's a sure fire sign they are not wanting any sort of connection. With that said, the personal space thing can manifest itself in other ways too. If he tries to get you into HIS personal space (by asking you to lean in to hear something, or come close so he can show you something) that is also a big neon sign of attraction. Another thing is, men will usually push their things into your personal space as well. For instance, if you two are sitting across from each other at a table and he sets his drink down much closer to you than to him, he's trying to have a reason to reach closer. ;)

People tend to point their bodies in the direction of people they have positive feelings about, and point away from people who make them uncomfortable. If someone crosses their legs toward you, it is a sign of comfort and interest. That can also be shown by how they position their trunk. If shoulders, abdomen and hips are rotated toward you, that's a great sign. But if there's an obvious effort to lean or turn away from you, that's not such a good sign!

How people look at you during conversation is a great way to determine their interest in you. When engaging in conversation with someone who is interested in the topic, but not "romantically" interested in the person, they will usually keep their focus just on the person's eyes. They will scan back and forth between your eyes only. With someone who is physically attracted to you, they will scan your eyes first, and then scan all of your other physical features. For example, they might look from your eyes to you mouth, back to your eyes, then to your hair, your neck, etc.

People who are physically attracted to someone will almost always touch their own face during conversation. They might also lick their lips, smile more than normal and adjust their clothes, hair, posture, etc. more than they usually do.

If you're using online dating services, it can be a bit harder to tell if the guy you're chatting with is really interested. One way to find out is obviously to ask. Online dating should give you a bit more confidence because you're not getting rejected to your face. What's the worst that will happen if a guy doesn't respond? Give your online dating interest your personal email or IM screen name and let him know that you'd like to chat sometime. If you hear from him in the next 48 hours, you're doing great and he's most likely interested in learning more about you. If you don't hear from him, don't contact him again. Let it go and browse the dating site for a better match and try again.
