Step 1
Lose weight: That might sting but it is necessary to avoid acid reflux (GERD). Obesity is one of the primary reasons for acid reflux. When you lay down the weight is pressing on the acid and causing it to escape. Walk at least 30 minutes a day to start. You will also aid in your body's circulation.
-
Step 2
Avoid your trigger foods. There are plenty of foods to avoid that may cause acid reflux, like chocolate, spicy or greasy foods, onions, and some sweets but these may not be your trigger foods. If you notice there are foods that is causing your acid reflux avoid them at all cost.
-
Step 3
Change your routine. Do you lay down when you eat or directly after? This can cause pressure to be applied and force the stomach acids to rise up through your esophagus. Also extreme movements like exercise should be done at least one hour after you eat.
-
Step 4
Cut down on the medicine to reduce acid. These are said to help with acid reflux but when used in excess can cause more harm. The acid in the body is necessary for proper digestion. To reduce the acid entirely will cause more problems.
