Every Halloween my family goes crazy creating a spooky, scary Halloween atmosphere to our yard and house. On the outside we create a spooky, scary Halloween scene complete with gravestones, ghosts, creatures, and more. We usually have a party with a fantastic Halloween buffet. On the buffet we throw in tasty, spooky looking food along with your typical buffet items.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Things you need are listed in each step.
  1. Step 1

Decorate the tables for the buffet. Since money is usually tight around our house, we got into the habit of buying table decorations from the local dollar store. You can get black and orange tablecloths, plates, forks, spoons, cups and more to decorate the table very inexpensively.

  2. Step 2

Make a batch of candy apples. Buy a bag of apples and a box of candy apple coating, and make your own candy apples. Put the apples in small plastic bags once the candy has cooled, and put a twist tie around the stick to keep them fresh. They are easy to make, and everyone will love them. The apples can be made a day before your party.

  3. Step 3

Make shish-ka-bobs. Cut up chicken breasts, beef roast, onion, bell pepper and mushrooms into pieces. Slide them onto bamboo skewers – make sure you alternate the ingredients. I try to make 2 batches. 1 batch of chicken skewers, and 1 batch of beef skewers. Chicken has to reach 165 degrees to be safe to eat, but beef only has to reach 155 degrees. I cook them separately to keep from overcooking the beef.

  4. Step 4

Make a large batch of punch. We have a simple easy recipe for punch.
    Punch Recipe
1 gallon of fruit punch (any brand)
1- 2 liter bottle of Sprite
1- half gallon of pineapple juice

Mix together and add punch ring. We freeze pineapple juice with cherries poured into a pound cake ring overnight to make the punch ring. It stays frozen for about two hours, and keeps the punch really cold.

  5. Step 5

Make a batch of mini-mummies. Wrap hot dogs or small sausages with strips of biscuits. Add eyes by brushing on two dots of food coloring. Cook until the biscuits are done. Serve the mini-mummies with two small bowls – label the ketchup blood and the mustard ooze or slime. The kids will love it.

  6. Step 6

Make a graveyard cake. Cook a box cake. Decorate it with chocolate icing, and add chocolate coated graham crackers with RIP printed on them for the gravestones. You can add marshmallow ghosts, pumpkins and bats to make it even more spooky.

  7. Step 7

Make sugar cookies using Halloween themed cookie cutters. We cut out ghosts, pumpkins, bats, coffins and other shapes. Make butter cream icing to coat the cookies in Halloween colors.

  8. Step 8

Make pasta salad, vegetable trays, chips, pretzels and other side dishes for people to fill up on.
