How to Prepare for the Praxis and PLT

Becoming a teacher is no easy task. The requirements are becoming harder and harder. Not only do teacher candidates go through four years of college, they also have to take several tests. Two of the last tests that teacher candidates have to take in many states are the PLT and Praxis exams. These tests are needed in order to become certified teachers. Many schools will not allow you to graduate until you have passed these tests. This article will help you prepare for these two exams.

Instructions

Gather all of your education notebooks. These notebooks have a lot of information in them that you've probably forgotten about. Go through all of your old notes and assignments. You will probably find that some of the content you learned in these courses is coming back.

Visit the testing website and take their practice exams. These exams are not full exams but they will give you an idea of what kinds of questions will be on the test. If you are practicing an essay test have a friend score it for you. The testing website will give you examples of what good essays are and what bad essays are.

Buy at least two study guides. You will need one for the Praxis and one for the PLT. Make sure that the study guides have review pages in them. Some study guides simply refer you to your class notes. This is not helpful because you've already gone through your notes! You are looking for a guide that not only gives you a review but also gives you some new information that your professors may have left out.

Take the pre-test that is provided in most study guides. This test will tell you what you already know and what you need to focus on. Once you have finished the pre-test you can move on to the review.

    • 5

Take the practice tests in the study guide. There are usually full versions of past tests in these books. There are also answer keys for both the multiple choice and the essays. Many books will give you three essay answers. One will be for a perfect essay, one will be for a good essay and one will be for a poorly written essay. Make sure that your essays have all of the components of a perfect essay.
