This Halloween bat craft is perfect for kids to make. After all, what child does not love balloons and Halloween decorations? This guy is just too cute to be too scary. With just a balloon, some simple craft supplies and lots of fun, your kids can make this Halloween craft idea in no time at all. It's easy and inexpensive so makes a great addition to your Halloween decorations.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Paint the Styrofoam cup black and set aside to dry. You can also just buy a black paper or plastic cup for this step. These are available during the Halloween season at most stores.

  2. Step 2

Blow up the balloon and tie it off. Set it aside for now.

  3. Step 3

Using the purple paper, cut out two large circles for the eyes. The size you need will depend on the size of the balloon. Cut them out and then hold it up to the balloon to see if you need to trim them and make them smaller.

  4. Step 4

Now cut out two smaller circles using the white paper. Cut two even smaller circles with the black paper for the pupils.

Glue the eyes together with the purple on bottom, then the white and then the black pupils on top. Once the glue is dry, attach the eyes to the balloon.

Tip: The bottom of the balloon is where you tied it off so be sure to place the eyes near the top.

  5. Step 5

Cut out a nose with the purple paper making an oblong shape. Place two small black dots for the nostrils using the black paint or a black marker. Glue this to the balloon below the eyes.

  6. Step 6

Next step for the bat craft is the mouth. Cut out a large purple circle. Then cut two fangs with the white paper. Glue the fangs on the back of the mouth. Then glue the mouth to the balloon under the nose.

Now your Halloween bat needs some ears. Using the purple paper, cut out two triangles. Then cut out two smaller triangles using the black paper. Glue a black triangle to a purple triangle to form an ear. Repeat for the other ear and glue these to the top of the balloon.

  7. Step 7

If this bat is going to fly then we need to give him some wings. Cut out two large wings with the purple paper. Now cut two smaller wings with the black paper. Glue a black wing on top of a purple wing. Repeat with the other two pieces. Glue each wing to the back of the balloon.

  8. Step 8

To make this kids Halloween craft stand up, place something heavy in the cup like rocks or craft clay. Then glue the balloon bat to the cup.

Finish off this Halloween decoration with some purple ribbon tied around the cup. As an alternative you can cut out a bow tie with the paper and glue this on the cup.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try using red or orange paper instead of purple. Or use a purple balloon and only black paper. Mix and match to make your bat craft your favorite Halloween colors.
  • If you use hot glue, let it cool ever so slightly so the heat won't pop the balloon.
  • If you use sticky glue, just hold in place for awhile until the glue begins to bond.
