How to Fix a Sansa MP3

Occasionally, your Sansa MP3 player might begin to experience problems. It is natural if your MP3 player has been on for an extended period of time to lock or freeze up. Fixing your Sansa MP3 player in this situation is easy--you just reset it. Doing so essentially performs the same function as restarting a computer. It clears the device's internal memory and allows it to boot back up in perfect functioning order.

1. Use your finger to slide the "Power" switch on the top of your Sansa MP3 player into the "Hold" position. Do not release it from this position.

2. Use your other fingers to press down the "Menu" and the "Record" button simultaneously. Hold all three of these buttons down until the device powers itself off.

3. Release all three of the buttons/switches you are holding down.

4. Press the "Power" button until the device turns back on. At this point, it will have successfully reset itself and you are free to use it once again.

Tips & Warnings

• There is another method in which you can reset a Sansa MP3 player, but it is not recommended because it involves physically opening the device. This voids any factory or extended warranty you may have. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding on the back of the MP3 player's case. Once you have done this, remove the batteries inside the device for 30 seconds to a minute. Put them back in, replace the back case and power the device on again. If your Sansa MP3 Player starts to experience other problems that resetting the device does not fix (things like the screen cracking, the hard drive completely failing or the internal battery dying), you have no other choice but to contact a Sansa service representative.
