Instructions

Measure the width of the window, including the window trim, on each door. You should also measure from the top rod to the bottom rod. If you do not have rods in place, allow 2 to 3 inches above and below the window frame. Double the width measurement and add 1 1/2 inches to determine the fabric width you require. Add 6 inches to your total length measurement. Purchase this amount of fabric for each stitched door panel.

Choose your fabric. You may want a sheer fabric to allow light through your door panels. Select a tightly woven fabric for easier sewing. Washable fabrics are helpful for a kitchen, entryway or mudroom. If you want to launder your finished door panels, be sure to prewash your fabric.

    • 3

Cut your fabric panels to size. Additional width is not a problem, so you may be able to just work with the finished selvage edges to make the sewing process easier.

    • 4

Zigzag stitch all raw edges of your fabric. Turn the long edges of your fabric under 5/8 inch. Press well, using the iron setting appropriate for your fabric. Stitch into place.

    • 5

Press a 1/4-inch hem into each short end of the fabric. Stitch near the edge. Iron the top and bottom edges of the fabric under and press 2 3/4 inches from the hemmed edge. Stitch 1/4 inch from the hemmed edge, then sew a second seam to create a casing on your door panels 1 inch from this seam.

    • 6

Thread both the upper and lower rods through the casings on your door panels and hang the rods on your doors.
