How to Open the Gas Tank on a Hummer H3

The Hummer H3 is the newest version of Hummer's publicly offered four-wheel drive vehicle and is one of the most versatile sport utility vehicles on the road today. Features of the H3 include electronic traction control, all wheel antilock brake system and an automatically locking gas tank cover. Sometimes it may seem difficult to open the gas tank on the H3; however, it is quite intuitive and anyone can do it.

Things You'll Need

• Hummer H3
• Hummer H3 key

Instructions

1. Pull up to the gas pump and put the Hummer H3 in park. Turn the ignition key off.

2. Reach down next to the driver's side seat and flip the small black button with the picture of a gas pump on it.

3. Exit the Hummer and pull the gas tank cover the rest of the way open. Insert your key into the gas tank lid and turn counterclockwise to unlock the lid.

4. Unscrew the lid the rest of the way and proceed to pump gas into the Hummer.

Tips & Warnings

• Some H3s will be equipped with combination locking caps versus the key lock. With those you will need to know your combination to access the tank.
