      Try a freeware converter, such as Xilisoft or Format Factory (see link in Resources). Click "Download Now." When a download screen appears, click "Save As."

      Find the installation file you just downloaded. It should be on your desktop or default download folder. Right click the installation file. Select "Open." Click "Next" on each screen of the installation until you have it all programmed into your computer.

      Click on the option to have the output format of your file be "VOB." This should be under a Video tab in the form of an "All to VOB" button, or it could be in a drop-down menu labeled "Output format" or "Profiles."

      Add your AVI file to this process. Click the "Add File" button. A browse window will come up. You can use it to find and double click your AVI video. Click "Convert" to begin the conversion process. After you are done, you can then burn the file to a blank DVD.
