Dressers add extra space to bedrooms by providing drawers, a mirror and counter space. Commonly, that counter space becomes a "catch-all" location for items that do not have a specified home. Dressers easily become marked and scratched, but those issues can be repaired.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baking soda (if needed)
  • Shoe polish (if needed)
  • Linseed oil (if needed)
  • Putty knife (if needed)
  • Cloth
  • Extra fine steel wool
  • Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser
  • Furniture polish
  1. Step 1

Use baking soda and water to create a thick paste. The paste can be used to remove water stains from the wood. Rub the paste into the water stain and let it set for at least 30 minutes. Gently remove the paste with a soft cloth and polish the wood with your favorite furniture polish.

  2. Step 2

Use shoe polish to cover up marks or scratches made in dressers that have a dark wood stain. The shoe polish should be a close match to the wood's finish. Simply dab the polish into the damaged area and rub it in gently with a cloth.

  3. Step 3

Repair heat marks by rubbing extra fine steel wool along the grain. Wipe area with a soft cloth and polish with your favorite furniture polish.

  4. Step 4

Remove paint marks by covering the stain with linseed oil. Allow the oil to soften the paint. Gently scrape the paint with a putty knife.

  5. Step 5

Use Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser to effortlessly remove scuffs, crayon, and pen marks from the wood dresser. The eraser can be used wet or dry. Magic Erasers can be found in the cleaning supply aisle.
