Clean the surface of the roof with soap and water to prepare it before the rubber is laid. If the existing rooftop's surface is too difficult to clean, such as gravel, simply lay down thin layers of plywood before installing the rubber.

Measure the surface area of the roof and use a pair of scissors to cut sections of EPDM rubber to size. Set each piece over the roof before applying the adhesive to ensure that you haven't cut too much or too little rubber.

Stir the adhesive that came with the rubber for at least five minutes. Fold back each sheet of rubber and thoroughly apply adhesive with the hand brush, avoiding too much near the edges so that it doesn't seep through the seams later on.

Apply adhesive to the plywood or roof before laying the rubber. This will create the strongest bond possible and securely insulate the roof. Permanently set the rubber and use a roller to eliminate any wrinkles or air bubbles.

Use a clean towel to wipe away any adhesive on the seams between each sheet of rubber. Then apply the seam tape that came with the roll to seal the rubber together and allow it to cure for at least a half hour.
