The Noric Ware Belgian Waffler allows you to prepare Belgian waffles on your home stove or over an open fire. Since it requires no electricity, this cast iron waffle iron requires the cook to know when to turn it over in the heat and how long to cook the waffles. Take this cast iron piece on your next camping trip and you can wake up to homemade Belgian waffles made over the campfire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soap and water
  • Nordic Ware Belgian Waffler
  • Cooking spray
  • Oven mitt
  • 1-1/4 c. measuring cup
  • Belgian waffle batter
  • Clock or timer
  • Fork
  1. Step 1

Wash the waffle iron in hot soapy water and dry completely before use. Spray the waffle iron inside on both the top and bottom with cooking spray.

  2. Step 2

Place the waffle iron onto a cooking burner and preheat the burner to medium heat. Allow the iron to preheat for six minutes, turning after the first three minutes so both sides get hot. Use an oven mitt to handle the waffle iron when turning.

  3. Step 3

Mix the batter while waiting for the waffle iron to preheat.

  4. Step 4

Open the waffle iron and pour 1-1/4 cup of batter into it. Close the top and place over medium heat. Use a kitchen timer or clock to be sure you heat the first side for 30 to 45 seconds. Turn the waffle iron and continue cooking on the second side until steam stops coming out of the sides. Watch the waffle iron carefully as this can take only three to four minutes. Open the waffle iron and remove the waffle with a fork.

  5. Step 5

Spray the waffle iron with cooking spray. Pour 1-1/4 cup of the remaining batter into the waffle iron on the side cooked for three to four minutes. Repeat the cooking process in step four and continue to repeat until all of the remaining batter has been used.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add one to two tablespoons of oil to the waffle batter for crispier waffles. Beat the egg whites separately and fold them into the batter at end of mixing for lighter waffles.
  • Never pick up the Nordic Ware Belgian waffler without an oven mitt. The metal remains hot long after it has been removed from the heat. Do not scrub the inside of the waffle iron with steel wool or abrasive scrub brushes to prevent damage to the interior coating.
