- Mild dish detergent
- Exterior paint primer
- Exterior paint
- Utility knife
- Putty knife
- Fine grade sand paper
- Wood filler

Wash the old wood exterior window trim with a sponge dampened with water and a mild dish detergent to remove dirt and flaking paint.

Remove putty from around the glass and frame by running a utility knife along the seam. Work the putty free and carefully pull it away from the window. You may want to use a soldering iron to heat some of the stubborn, sticking putty. The heat will make it more pliable and convenient to remove.

Rub a fine grade sand paper over the wood portion of the window frame to smooth the surface and prepare it for painting.

Apply wood filler to any cracks and holes with a putty knife and allow to dry according to the manufacturer's specifications.
