Format your invitations. While there are a variety of templates for customizing invitations, for this project we'll use Microsoft Publisher. After opening a new document, divide the page into four equal sections by clicking the line tool or estimating. Then click on the oval tool and make a circle shape in just one of those sections. This is the start of your circular template for placing the construction images and information for party goers. If you don't want circular shaped invitations, plan to cut them into rectangles.

Insert a second page. This will be the backside for the invites. Follow the same guidelines to format the second page as you did the first. Cut and paste your circle shape in the same place on this page.

    • 3

Choose clip art. Now comes the fun part. You will search for construction themed birthday party clip art such as bulldozers, dump trucks, hazard signs, hard hats, and street signs. You can find quality free clip art at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/clipart or http://www.school-clip-art.com.

Insert your image. Now that you've found your construction image, insert it into the circular shape and add some text to entice party goers. You are working on the front side of your invitation and since it is customized, you can decide what you want it to say. You can also use four different images with the same welcome message.

    • 5

Cut and Paste. Since you are utilizing the entire sheet of paper, be sure to cut and paste the circle shape, clip art, and text into all four sections of the page.

    • 6

Create your backside message. While staying in the circle shape, add in all the details that the birthday crew will need, such as the date, time, place, and RSVP information. Once you create one section, copy and paste it into all four sections, making sure you are following the same measurements as the front side.

Print and trim. You'll be printing your invitations on 8.5- by 11-inch card stock. Depending on your clip art images, you might want either white paper or a bright color. You'll print one side of the invitation at a time and flip the paper over to print the second page. Finally, trim the invitations to the circle shape for invites that truly resemble the construction party pals invitations. If your kids want to help, buy some construction stickers. The stickers can be used on the invitations themselves or to seal envelops for the final touch.
