Instructions

    • 1

Find living moss--a simple walk through the woods or your own backyard will often yield plenty of moss for this project. Harvest the moss, removing as much dirt as possible.

    • 2

Blend the moss and buttermilk in the blender. The mixture should be runny enough to paint on, but thick enough not to slide off the sides of your pot.

    • 3

Paint the buttermilk-moss mixture onto your pot using the foam brush.

    • 4

Wrap your pot in the plastic bags to create a moist environment, then set in a cool, shady place for about two weeks. After this amount of time, you will begin to see the moss growing on your pot. The pot is now ready to hold plants.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you've placed plants in your pots, be sure to keep them well watered; the moisture is essential to keeping the moss growing.
