How to Create Your Own Cookie Stamp
Cookie stamps are small square or round imprinters that are pressed into a ball of cookie dough to transfer a pattern to the top of the cookie. Cookie stamps are usually made of glass, wood or ceramic, but they can be improvised with excellent results. A one-time-use cookie stamp can be created with a little creativity. Find various household and kitchen objects to use a cookie stamps. The items should be approximately 2 inches in diameter and have a raised pattern or interesting geometric shape on the bottom, or have a textured bottom rim.

Mix a batch of stiff cookie dough and drop by rounded tablespoons onto a prepared cookie sheet. Grease and flour the bottom of the object that you are using as a cookie stamp.

Gently press the stamp onto the cookie dough, flattening the dough to about 1/4-inch thick. Bake cookies as directed.
Potato Cookie Stamp

Select a large raw potato and cut it in half.

Etch the desired design into the cut face of the potato.

Use a paring knife to carve the design. The raised areas on the potato cookie stamp are the indented areas on the cookie, so work in reverse.

Mix cookie dough, stamp and bake.

Discard used potato cookie stamps.

Tips & Warnings
Flat-bottomed items such as vases, coasters, glassware and carved children's blocks work well as cookie stamps. Cookie dough should be cold and fairly stiff to stamp well. Chill the dough or add flour in small increments if the stamp is sticking. Dipping the stamp in granulated sugar also minimizes sticking. Many cookie stamp companies will produce a wood or ceramic cookie stamp with a custom design. Contact the company, prepare your artwork according to its specifications and place the order. Cookie stamps can be manufactured with a monogram, geometric design or logo.
