How to Skateboard Like Bam Margera

Bam Margera is famous not only for being a professional skateboarder but also for his accomplishments in the fields of television, film and music. He was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 28, 1979, and was a professional skateboarder by the age of 13. While still a teenager, Margera developed the CKY video series. Margera co-created and starred in the MTV show "Jackass," as well as the "Jackass" films. He also created, produced, directed and starred in "Viva La Bam" for MTV. Margera currently owns the Filthy Note record label, which he created, and hosts "Radio Bam" on Sirius Satellite Radio. The skateboarding companies Element Skateboards, Destructo Trucks and Adio Shoes, among others, currently sponsor him. All of his accomplishments and acclaim began with skateboarding.

      Familiarize yourself with skateboarding videos that feature Bam Margera. Watch the CKY video series, which includes CKY, CKY2K and CKY3. Also, watch the Toy Machine-produced video "Jump Off a Building" (1998), which features Bam. Make note of the fast and aggressive way Margera approaches the tricks he performs.

      Skateboard as much as you can every day. In a 2008 interview on skateboard-revolution.com, Bam says that he skates at least two hours a day with his friends. Running a record label and hosting a radio show, combined with his television and film work, does not stop him from skating regularly.

      Skateboard with a group of friends. The CKY videos, as well as the "Jackass" television show, indicate that Bam and his friends encourage each other to extend their imaginations and perform complex and sometimes completely wild tricks.

      Learn how to ollie and kickflip. Once you have these tricks mastered, practice doing these tricks at high rates of speed over wide gaps and at great heights. Part of what makes Bam Margera's skateboarding style so dynamic is the seemingly effortless way he performs aerial maneuvers, such as kickflips, over a variety of large obstacles.

      Maintain a good sense of humor and a fearless attitude. Margera infuses his skateboarding with a clear sense of humor and fun. He doesn't shy away from performing tricks on a big scale.

      Skate at the Woodward Skatepark in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The address is 1943 Franklin Mills Circle, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19154. This skatepark is close to Bam's hometown and he has spent lots of time there honing his skills. If you can't make it to Woodward, go to the skatepark nearest you as often as possible.

  • Keep in mind that Bam, like all professional skaters, worked up to the big tricks, he didn't start with them. Don't be timid, but don't be careless, either.
