Wash your hair avoiding hydrating shampoos and conditioners. These types of products will weigh down your hair making it go flat. Use volumizing products or ones with protein rich formulas. When applying conditioner, avoid the roots, and apply from the midshafts to the ends. This will also prevent the hair from becoming limp.

Weekly use a deep clean which removes the oil build up from the shampoos and conditioners. You can find deep clean products made by Suave, Herbal Essences, and Gillette at local retailers. Also weekly, use a deep conditioner or hot oil treatment on a different day than the cleanser. You apply the conditioner before shampooing so it can hydrate you hair without adding weight.

Apply volumizers with protein formulas out of the shower. Don't use gels because they can flatten your hair, make it look fine, and overall leave your hair stiff and crunchy. Coat damp hair from the root to the tip with the volumizing mousse.

Avoid high heat when out of the shower. Set the temperature, if applicable, on medium heat and remove the nozzle attachment. Use hot rollers instead of a curling iron to avoid damaging and breaking fine hair. Hot rollers will add body to your hair and lift roots.

Lift the roots also to make your hair look thicker by flipping your head upside down and dry your hair that way. Once the hair is almost dry, flip back and finish. Use a round bristle brush while blow drying because it is gentler on fragile hair. To finish the process, use the blow dryer to aim cold air to the roots to keep the roots upright, still adding volume.
