Learn how to preserve hot peppers on a sting and have them ready to use without bottling them. A pretty fall decoration for the kitchen too.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dental floss
  • Large eye needle
  • Hot peppers, almost dry
  1. Step 1

Choose the peppers that you want to preserve on a string. Dental floss or another strong thread is fine. Pick the peppers from the bush, using some kitchen gloves to keep hot juice off fingers.

  2. Step 2

Using the large needle and floss or string, place needle through the stem end of the pepper, across the width. Now layer the peppers, alternating colors if you have peppers of different colors. Make the string of peppers as long as you would like.

  3. Step 3

Tie off the end of the pepper string with a portion of the string wrapped around the last pepper top creating a large knot when tied off so peppers won't slide off the string. For added charm tie a raffia straw bow and attach the top of the pepper string into the bow. Hang the peppers in a place to finish drying that won't attract children to touch, or a curious pet. Make several of these strings if you have a lot of peppers to preserve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Potted pepper plants from the garden center are the fastest way to get peppers to string.
  • Use as needed for recipes, or keep for fall decoration.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Wash hands after picking and stringing or using for cooking.
